Lyme Disease is a Disease that cripples families both physically and financially. LymeLight Foundation is an organization that helps with the financial part. Today, I am joined by Phyllis Bedford and her daughter, Dr. Sarah Bedford, an Immanence Health Resident. They share what motivated them to start the foundation, the hope for the future, and how they can help families.

Two families started LymeLight Foundation with children diagnosed with Lyme disease. Through their children’s struggles, both families discovered the incredible expense of battling Lyme disease and the inability of many families to afford proper treatment. Unfortunately, most treatment plans for Chronic Lyme are not covered by insurance. Existing Lyme foundations mainly focus on funding research and awareness. LymeLight Foundation is uniquely dedicated to funding medical treatment for individuals with Lyme.

The Foundation awards grants to eligible children and young adults through 25 years of age. The goal and hope of the Foundation are that through these grants, children can receive proper treatment and medications in their fight against Lyme disease.

The LymeLight Foundation is recognized by the IRS and the State of California Franchise Tax Board as a tax-exempt 501 (c) 3 organization. Contributions to the LymeLight Foundation are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

About Dr. Sarah Bedford

Dr. Sarah Bedford completed her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health Science from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California.

Dr. Bedford’s interest in naturopathic medicine came from wanting to practice a system of medicine that evaluated the whole person on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. After witnessing, family members struggle to find answers and effective treatments; she was led to naturopathic medicine.

While at SCNM, she completed an Honor’s track in Pediatrics working with patients with Autism, ADHD, and PANS/PANDAS. Dr. Bedford says she is passionate about working with kids because it lays the groundwork for a lifetime of wellness and impacts the whole family. She values her role as a medical detective and puts pieces of the puzzle together. She also believes in the body’s innate ability to heal and rebound from chronic illness.

Dr. Bedford is thrilled to be completing a residency at Immanence Health. She likes exploring new places, hiking, and skiing in her free time.
